common–law & bankruptcy

If my common-law boyfriend declares bankruptcy of any kind will I also become legally involved? I own my own home that he has moved into with me and I don’t want to lose it? This is involving debt that he had incurred before he moved in with me. I live in New Brunswick, Canada. Thank you.

As long as the property in question is in your name, has always been in your name, you can clearly trace the majority of mortgage payments from your funds and you haven’t signed on any of your boyfriend’s debts, then there will be no way his bankruptcy will impact you.
