Can people escape civil court judgments through bankruptcy?

I may be suing someone who would retaliate by declaring bankruptcy – hence not making it worth my while to sue, if she can escape by this route.

This is in Quebec.

Civil court judgments are generally discharged in a bankruptcy, unless they relate to fraud or other criminal activities.

Your lawyer can provide you with further details.

Is lying to obtain property fraud? is it still fraud if you get the property back, but have to incur damages to do so? These damages are the issue.

Thank you.
