In Canada the minimum bankruptcy period for a first time bankrupt is nine months. However, a bankruptcy can be extended for many reasons, including excess income, or if you have not completed all of your duties.

If you do not complete your duties and are therefore not discharged from your bankruptcy, in most cases your creditors can pursue you for outstanding debts.
