credit card

i have a credit card that i maxed out to pay bills down but at the same time i couldnt pay back the minimum payment required each month. i was thinking bankruptcy might be the only option but did nothing. i was sent letters and put in collections. im just getting by and now i recieved a paper from the sheriff to make arrangements. i have a small cottage that i live in and was told they could put a lien on that. is there anything that i could do to fix this?

There are many factors that must be looked at to properly answer this question so I would first recommend that you contact a local trustee and review the situation with them in more detail.

Having said that, likely the best way to prevent the creditor from putting a lien on the property is by filing either a bankruptcy
or a consumer proposal. Once either of these are filed the creditor looses the right to lien the property in question.
