if you have been sued by the insurance company can that debt be cleared in bankruptcy ?

There is a category of debts that are not released by a bankruptcy. This list includes things like student loans (in some circumstances), debts related to fraud, debts related to misappropriation, child support alimony etc.
As long as the debt with the insurance company doesn’t fall into that list you can be cleared from it by the filing of a bankruptcy.
