Restarting again

August 30th, 2011 by Questions

I declared bankruptcy in april 2007. Its been 4 years since. i was discharge after 2 years. I want to try and restart my credit again. if I get a secured deposit credit card, will it help me at the credit bureau, or does it not make a difference for 7 years anyway?

Also, would it be a better option to go under my wife’s joint account and get a supplementary card with my name on it?

What do you suggest?

Either will work, but since the secured card will be issued in your name directly, I suspect it may be the better way to go.

The fact that you filed for bankruptcy will be disclosed on your credit report for up to 6 years from the date of your discharge. Most people are able to begin applying for and being granted credit after 3 or 4 years so your timing should be abvout right to get started.
