Can I apply for a secure credit card while in the bankruptcy process or do I have to wait until I am discharged?

Certainly, although most will not approve your application until you’ve been in bankruptcy (or a proposal) for at least 3 months. If you need a card sooner, you may purchase a prepaid card, but keep in mind these cards do not actually rebuild your credit as no credit is being extended. Talk to your trustee before you apply to discuss options and the impact each might have on your situation.
