Court Judgment

September 19th, 2008 by Questions

I have 1 debt on my credit report from a bay totaling $800. Eqiufax informed me that it will be off my credit report by January 2010. The collection agency say that if it goes to a court judgment that it will stay on credit report for 10 years. The debt was created from a former girlfriend and she is no longer around. My question is should i just pay it or call the collection agency`s bluff. Need some help. Thanks

Check out Equifaxes’ website and read their policies on reporting. You should find that as long as someone is reporting activity on your account it will be listed on your report. When they stop reporting activity it may remain on your report for up to 7 additional years…

So, the collection agency may have mispoke when they said 10 years, but the “threat” is real enough. Whether or not a single $800 bad debt will seriously damage your credit rating is another matter entirely…
