It never hurts to try to negotiate privately with your creditors. IF you have had a good history and have been upfront with them they will often make some concessions. However, if you get to a spot where they simply are unwilling to negotiate you may need to contact a local trustee and discuss the possibility of filing a consumer proposal., which is a legal way you can have the trustee negotiate directly with your creditors and has a greater likelihood of being agreed to.
