CRA Owing Afetr filing

May 25th, 2012 by Questions

Hello –

Two years ago I filed a 5 year consumer proposal. The CRA was owed a small amount at that time and was included. Since then I owe on two tax returns. They haven’t called yet and I’m wondering if I’m still protected?

The consumer proposal can only protect you for tax debt that occurred up to the date you filed the consumer proposal. So why CRA hasn’t called I can only speculate, but technically the can call and collect on any of the tax owing on tax debt owing after the date of filing. So you should contact CRA right away and make arrangements to pay this outstanding post proposal tax.
