If I do a consumer proposal for a bank loan and someone else has co-signed the loan – does the bank automatically default to the co-signer or do they normally accept the proposal ? Is this negotiable ?

As soon as the lender receives notice of your proposal they will contact your co-signer to arrange for payment on the debt. The only way a co-signer will not be affected is if you repay the debt in full (including interest).
