We are filing a consumer proposal and the trustee has requested when we come in to sign, we bring the first payment in cash with two other cheques for the next two months. Does this seem right?

Yes, this is very normal. Although it is not likely that these are fees for the trustee, but they are your first three payments in the proposal and will help to ensure everything gets off on the right track. For reference this is very similar to what I require at my office.
