Business Ownership

My spouse & I have accrued considerable credit card debt in order to keep our business afloat during difficult times. Will our business automatically close if we enter a consumer proposal or declare personal bankruptcy? These debts are unsecured.

This really depends on a few different things (i.e. how the business is set up, the nature of any assets or debts in the business, wheter or not there is any value to continuing the business etc.)
The answer can also vary depedning on whether we are talking about a bankruptcy or a consumer proposal.
So the best thing to do is to contact a local trustee, they will be able to explore the specifics of your sitaution in a little more detail and then they will be in a position where they can advise you what the impact on the business will likely be.
