Consumer Proposal and spouse’s employment
October 13th, 2008 by Questions
Would filing a consumer proposal negatively affect the prospects of my wife`s employment with the Federal Govt? She`s been offered a contract position which could potentially lead to a full time position. In short would proposals be viewed in the same vein as filing for bankruptucy?

Unless solvency is a condition of employment (ie a requirement in your spouse’s job) there’s no reason why filing a proposal or bankruptcy will make any difference. Certainly there’s no legal reason…
That being said, the only person that can tell you if it matters will be the interviewer (or perhaps the Human Resources department for the agency your spouse is applying to).
