Post Bankruptcy Taxes- time to process
September 19th, 2013 by Questions
Hi,
We got out of bankruptcy in Oct 2012. We submitted all our 2012 tax items in March to our Trustee. They did the taxes for us (both pre and post). I noticed on the rev Canada site that our pre bankruptcy taxes were filed June 17th 2013. However, our post bankruptcy taxes still haven’t been assessed.
I am concerned because Child Tax has notified us stating that if they do not receive our tax information our payments will stop in October. I spoke to our trustee who indicated that it can take up to five months to process post bankruptcy returns. Can you tell me why this is?
Thank you

You need to find out from your trustee when they filed the returns. If they weren’t filed until June 17, well CRA works on a first in first out basis and will get to them when they get to them. To maintain your baby bonus cheques you’ve got to convince CRA that they have received your return and it is simply waiting to be processed. Of course if they tell you they haven’t receive it yet you’ve got a different problem and need to speak to your trustee.
