Can a bank block me from opening an account? The company I work for asked me to open an account at cibc. I had declared bankruptcy and had loans at cibc which were part of the bankruptcy.

Yes they can – banking is a privlidge, not a right. As a business the bank has the right to accept or refuse any customer.

Having said that, it is illegal for your employer to tell you that you have to deal with a specific bank, but you need to speak to a labour expert about that…
