EI Overpayment

I filed Bankruptcy , and was discharged , the very next week Ei overpayment debt letter arrived , saying i was to pay , it took government 2 years to send notice of debt , after i was discharged ! Now my trustee thinks i may have to pay ? Do i need a lawyer?

EI overpayments often are not dischargeable by bankruptcy. If you failed to report income or otherwise misrepresented your situation and received benefits as a result then bankruptcy law will not deal with this debt.

So – how/why were you overpaid by EI? If you did nothing wrong then the debt is dischargeable. Otherwise, you have to repay it…
