discharged
November 25th, 2011 by Questions
I filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and made payments for 9 months then they extended it two more months so after 11 months i was discharged with no trouble. I received an inheritance a few months after my discharge. Im told that im ok as it has to be within 180 days of my filing to be included in my bankruptcy. Can you shed some light on this please.
thank you

If you receive an inheritance or become aware of a potential inheritance during a bankruptcy, you have a legal obligation to disclose this to your trustee.
The interesting thing is that it is no the date you receive the inheritance, but it is the date of the event that caused the inheritance to become due (i.e. the passing of your relative). If they passed away prior to your discharge, you must tell your trustee and will likely loose those funds.
