Tax benefits will put me over surplus income

Hi,
I recently had a baby and have not applied for the Canada Child Tax Benefit because my income would be over the threshold if I receive it. Am I obligated to collect this money? It would mean that I would be in bankruptcy for the extended period. Can I just apply after my bankruptcy period ends and not try to retroactively collect the benefits from the time I was in bankruptcy?
Thanks!

You have an obligation to collect the CTB. If you simply play dumb and try to collect your back pay on the CTB after you are discharged the result is that you will have received a discharge on a fraudulent basis and this would be reversed when your creditors realize you are to recieve the CTB back pay. You are better to bite the bullet, deal with the situation now as opposed to having this loom over you for a prolonged period of time.
