I filed for bankruptcy in April 2002, I am finally starting to re-establish credit, and have recently been getting calls from a collection agency trying to recover the provincial portion of my student loans. I graduated in December 1992 so I apparently fell short of the 10 year period. I just want to know if the new legislation helps me at all? The collection agency is insisting that the 10 year rule applies to the provincial debt. They have had my file since November 2008 and are only now starting to try and recover it.Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The new legislation would not have any impact on you as you filed bankruptcy and were discharged from bankruptcy a long time before the new 7 year rule became law. So you will need to contact the collection agency and arrange a payment schedule.
