Common Law & Debt in MB
March 19th, 2009 by Questions
I am considering living common law with my partner. He declared bankruptcy in MB and was discharged in Jun/04. I own my own home which he would move into. If he has other debt up to now which I am not aware of, do I have nay legal obligation to it once we are common law for 12 months? This may include debt owning to utility companies. What is the best way for me to legally protect my assets, ie. my home and RSP savings?

As long as you keep everything in your name you will not have to worry. If you don’t sign on any of his debts, you nor your property is at risk.
