Are common law spouses considered to be in the protected class beneficiaries on insurance policies and how long is the trustee allowed to have interest in an insurance policy after discharge?

I do not believe a common-law spouse falls under the category of “specified beneficiary” – you should check with your insurance company to be certain.

Once you have been discharged your trustee should not have any interest in your insurance policies. If they had value to the trustee then the trustee should have recovered that value during your bankruptcy.
