Recent Purchase

February 4th, 2008 by Questions

I needed and purchased a laptop about a month ago on a retailer`s credit card on a 24 month no interest payment plan. The total is about $1700 I owe for this particular item. I`m now considering bankruptcy due to my overall financial state and wondering how the the laptop purchase would be viewed by the creditors and trustees. Would this be seen as a fraudulent purchase and what are my options in this regard. There was no ill intent on my part when the purchase was made. My total debts are close to $50k. Thanks!

It is difficult to predict how your laptop purchase will be viewed – let me ask you something? What do you think is the “right thing to do?” Should you take the laptop back (although it is probably too late for that)? Should you have to pay for it since you only just picked it up?

All I can suggest is that you make whatever trustee you speak to aware of the purchase and they will explain to you the potential complications that may result if you file bankruptcy or a proposal.
