How long do I have to wait after discharge??

February 26th, 2008 by Questions

I claimed bankruptcy in 2001 when I was 20….I didnt get discharged until last year 2007…I have not been in any debt since 2001, I have a very good steady paying job, paid off a $14,000 loan in 2 years and I have had a secured credit card in good standing for the last year. When can I expect this bankruptcy to come off my credit report so that I can obtain a line of credit to further establish myself? I want to buy a house in 3 years! At present, no bank will even consider lending to me with this bankruptcy still showing on my report even though I have proven myself to be a good risk!! What more do I need to do??

The bankrutpcy will be listed for a maximum of 6 years from the date you were discharged, so in your case that would be 2014. However, by doing just the things you are (i.e. obtaining small forms of credit and paying them off) you will be able to reduce this length of time.
