how long to keep documents
January 27th, 2008 by Questions
I understand that I should keep our certificate of discharge indefinitely, but how long should I keep my other financial documents, related to the bankruptcy? I have all of the original loan documents, and the last credit card statements in a file with our other bankruptcy documents but wonder if I really need to be keeping these things. We were just discharged in the summer of 2007.

I always recommend that you hold on to all your bankruptcy documents indefinitely. Now this doesn’t mean you need thold onto loan documents and credit card statements, but just the documents directly related to the administration of the bankruptcy (from the day you filed the assignment to the date your trustee was discharged).
