after a discharge, can you start a savings account or do you have to pay your debt back.

Certainly you can start a savings account after you have been discharged – in fact, you can start one during your bankruptcy and as long as you make the required payments to your trustee no one has a right to take your savings from you.

Saving money is encouraged – if you can do it then good for you!
