Have you declared personal bankruptcy?

May 27th, 2007 by Questions

I declared bankruptcy in 2000 and was discharged in Jan 2001. I understand that it takes 6 – 7 years before the bankruptcy information comes off my Credit Report. My question is this, \”When can I answer NO to the question of having declared personal bankruptcy?\” When the question is asked on application for credit forms for credit cards, do I have to answer yes or no now that it\’s no longer on my credit report?

This is a question that you will always have to answer yes to as there is no reference to time. You are correct that this information will stay on your credit file for a maximum of 6 years from the date of your discharge, but this is a separate issue. Anytime you see the question asked you are obligated to answer it truthfully and failure to do so would be constituted as fraud.
