Child Tax Benefits

July 19th, 2011 by Questions

We are a 3 person household, one of which is a school age girl.

Is the Child Tax Benefit included as income, we were informed that it is not part of the bankruptcy process. Should it be reported on our income sheets or just mentioned.

Unfortunately you have either been misinformed or misunderstood what you were told. You are required to report your income from any/all sources every month, including the child tax benefit. Your total income will be compared to the government threshold for your size of family to dtermine if you have any obligation to pay surplus income.

Make sure you discuss this in detail with whichever trustee you have decided to use BEFORE you file for bankruptcy.
