student loan debt

I could buy a home with what I owe in student loans. I know I am only one of many in these circumstances. I have a number of friends from university with huge loans to repay. It seems that you need the salary of a doctor to be able to cope with this.I would file for bankruptcy right away if I knew it would get rid of my student debt. I am dealing with collection agencies on a daily basis. I am 23 years old and I see that my financial future is bleak. The government has decided in all of it’s wisdom not to include student loan debt in a bankruptcy.I thought the purpose of the bankruptcy law was to give you protection and a second chance .I don’t see the government excluding some debt in big business. I can understand debt from criminal activities being excluded but not student loans. They are hurting the people who need it the most.It seems to me that it is becoming a real crisis .Have you and your colleagues seen any indication of this in your experience . Is there anything I could do that might help me .I have several friends who plan to pay off their student loans by using money from their credit cards and lines of credit.After a year or 2 they will file for bankruptcy .The sad part is that they have law degrees and understand that it is difficult to prove criminal intent. Even if they keep up the payments for 3-5 years they are still ahead. I do not want to do anything illegal.Is it true that the government changed the bankrutcy laws concerning student loans because so many attorneys were declaring bankrutcy soon after graduating.
