debt responsibilty

I was unaware that a supplemental card I have made me repsonsible for the entire debt . The application states the primary card holder is responsible for any debt incurred by the supplemental card holder. I assumed this meant I wouldn’t be if the card was in default. I just signed the card when it came and filed it away not reading it.You get so many small print documents with almost everything these days most dont read them. I put very little on the card ,maybe 5 percent. This liabilty is not on my credit report and what happens if the primary card holder goes bankrupt. A huge liabilty is placed on my credit report that I can’t pay. My credit is good now but this will destroy my credit . What can i do.
