Cost??????

I went to see a consultant today… I owe just under $25,000….Not enough income to pay all the bills. They told me I would pay $250. right away. Then $150 for 9 months. Then the govt would keep my 2013 gst and any refund from next year. I always heard that it was aflat $1000. charge. Could you please let me know if this is true? Thank you.

I am sorry, but your first mistake was speaking to a “consultant” – do a Google search and look for a trustee firm in your area and go and see them. The $250 the consultant was asking for upfront was likely their fee – the trustee won’t ask you for anything until you actual sign all of the required papers.

The going rate in Ontario is usually a minimum of $1800 – I have heard the $1000 rate for the east coast, but you’ll have to ask the trustee. If you aren’t sure, call more than 1.
