Credit card debt

I have Canadian credit card debt but moved to the U.S. nine years ago. I have no CDN income, assests, or investments. I declared chapter 7 in the U.S. two years ago and was told by my lawyer that I was discharged from all credit card debt. I’m being harassed by collections agencies in Canada. What should I do?

There are no international treaties on debt or bankruptcy. If you want your US bankruptcy to be recognized in Canada you will need to bring the matter before a Canadian Court.

Having said that, your US bankruptcy protects you while you are in the US. As long as you have no CDN assets or income there is very little your CDN creditors can do to you (except bother you).
