Ms. Kjaer

I have a student loan from when I was a student in Denmark that I am supposed to make monthly payments on. I cannot afford to make the payments. How can I deal with this foreign student loan when considering bankruptcy in the province of BC.

There are no international treaties on debt or debt collection – if you file in BC then the foreign debts may no longer pursue you in Canada, BUT if you return to Denmark, or “own” things there then they will have whatever rights they are permitted under Danish law.
