Techincally in Alberta the limitation period is 2 years. The problem is that this statute is very complicated and offers some very simple ways for creditors to extended up to 6 years and longer by taking some very simple steps. As most banks and other financial institutions are quite savvy, we find that rarely does this statutory limitations come in to play. But if you do have questions on this I would suggest you contact a lawyer who specializes in this type of law.
