Worried

I have been out of school for 8 yrs. I am recently married and a stay at home mom. I have paid off one student loan but the other was sent to a credit company and has not had a payment for 7 yrs. I have not worked since having to leave school and am supported by my husband. I have not heard about the unpayed student loan in a few years. How do I find out about this debt(not sure the company) and does my husbands income affect whether or not I can file for bankruptcy?

It is difficult to say what the best place is to call to find out about your student loan, but I would start with the National Student Loan department. They should be able to be of assistance there.

As for a bankruptcy, your husbands income wouldn’t impact your ability to file a bankruptcy, so if you find that the student loan debt is unmanageable you may want to contact a local trustee.
