Bankruptcy Confusion

Hi, I am considering filing for Bankruptcy but am not sure how this will affect my live in boyfriend. We have been living together for approximately 4 years and have no assets ‘together’.We also have been filing our taxes as ‘single’. Will my bankruptcy affect his financial status or assets?

There will be no direct impact on your boyfriend if you file for bankruptcy. Now his presence will indirectly impact the formula that is used to determine the cost of a bankruptcy, but only marginally. Other than that your debts and your relationship are separate. The only time he would be impacted is if you had either joint debts or joint assets, which you don’t.
