Trustee consultation fee
I am meeting with a trustee in a few weeks. He said that he will charge approximately $500-$1200 for the meeting. Is this standard? From what I’ve read, consultations are free? I do have a complex case so I wonder if the fee reflects that?

There is nothing preventing a trustee from charging a consultation fee, but this is fairly unusual. Now the complexity can change things, but if you are dealing with a consumer issue most trustee’s wouldn’t charge you for your initial meeting or two. Of course there would be a charge if you file a consumer propsal, bankruptcy or one of the similar options available, but not just for the initial meeting.
What I would recommend is you contacta local trustee. I see you in BC, it is likely Sands & Associates who serve your area and last I spoke to them every initial consult was free of charge. If you contacted someone else I would recommend calling Sands first as you may be able to save yourself some money.
