I am considering using a trustee who has informed me even if I meet all the requirments I may not be discharged for an additional 12 months. Why would this be as I am a first time bankrupt? Should I get another consultation?

This is standard practice in many instances. Now I am not familiar with all the circumstances of your situation but I would assume that there is a reason for this and your trustee is simply disclosing all of the things that can take place as he should. It is much better you find someone who explains this as opposed to only explaining the basics and having you draw an incorrect option about the process.
