Spouse`s Debt

My husband incurred a lot of debt and then left the country. I have not signed anything and don`t even know what he was buying. I tried to take out a loan and the credit bureau has me listed with them, but the debts are my husband`s. The guy at the credit bureau told me I`m responsible for my husband`s debt because I could have benefitted from them. Is that true? Thanks.

If you have never signed on any of the debt then you are not responsible for the debt. To confirm this contact some of the creditors on the list and see if they have you listed on the loan. If they don’t have you listed there is a dispute process through the credit bureau that you can go through to correct any mistakes in their reporting.
