This is not dependent on how much longer you have to make payments, it depends on whether or not you are up to date on your payments and who the financing is through. If you are behind on payments you likely will loose the vehicle and certain lenders seize vehicles more quickly than others. For details on how your lender reacts to difficult times you are best to contact a local trustee.
