Failing to appear in court over debt

If I fail to appear in court over money owed to collectors, will I just automatically loose by default or will I be in contempt of court and have a warrant on my head?

For those who are ordered to have their wages garnished, can`t they just quit their job after?

By failing to appear in court you have essentially waived your right to dispute the action and will automatically loose by default. Typically contempt charges or warrents are only used when people are summoned and either fail to appear or refuse to cooperate.

In terms of the garnishee, you can always quit the job, but realistically this won’t solve the problem. You would be much better to contact a local trustee and discuss how a bankruptcy or a consumer proposal can both stop the garnishee and put an end to the debts that are causing you these problems.
