trustee fees for filing

My trustee says i will have to pay $157 per month for surplus income, $23 for admin fee and $75 filing fee – that is it for my bankruptcy? how does the trustee make any money? is their not a bigger cost to file? I asked many times if that was the only cost, any hidden fees and they said no?

It sounds like your trustee charges most clients $180 a month to file for bankruptcy – in your case that $180 is being allocated to surplus income and then they are adding a “fee” payment of $23 to get to the number they want.

Get it in writing and understand that as your income changes so will your surplus obligation. You might want to ask your trustee how much you will be required to pay if your income drops (due to a layooff). I suspect they’ll tell you $180 a month…
