Severance Pay

I recieved a severance pay out 1 1/2 years ago. I have no assests left. Why does the trustee want details of this payout. And is it revelant.

It is not uncommon for trustees to request financial infomration going back as far as five years – we’re required to investigate your finances to make ceratin that you haven’t done something inappropriate with your money or possessions prior to filing for bankruptcy.

One of the purposes of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act is to provide the “honest, but unfortunate debtor with a fresh start” – the questions are designed to confirm there aren’t any reasons why the Act won’t apply to you.
