Spousal support is one of the debts that cannot be cleared by filing a bankrutpcy or proposal.

So if this is your only debt then discussing things with a trustee will not help your current situation. However, if you have other unsecured debts you may wish to contact a trustee as a bankrutpcy or proposal may be able to deal with those debts and create more cash flow each month for you to concentrate on the spousal support.
