past credit card debt

Hello,
I`m thinking of filing bankruptcy for the first time, since I have been in trouble keeping up my monthly payments to unsecured debts(store credit, visa…). In the past, I have an amount of approx. $28K which I didn`t pay to a credit card yet; however the creditor had written off this account, but still showing the full balance on my credit report. Does this mean that when I file bankruptcy, I can include this debt in it or will it not be discharged in my bankruptcy? Please advise…

You can and should include this debt. It is the only way you will be protected from this amount coming back to haunt you sometime down the road (i.e. just because the company has claimed it is written off doesn’t mean it won’t be a valid encumberance against you and in the near future I would expect that they would sell the debt to a 3rd party collection agency, all of which they can’t do if you list them in a bankruptcy or a proposal).
