Delayed request for repayment
I filed personal bankruptcy in August 1997 and was discharged in May 1998. I have just recently been contacted by a collection agency regarding my outstanding Canada Student Loan with Scotia Bank from 1995. Was this debt not absolved with my discharge in 1998?

Some very big changes happened to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act in and around the time of your bankruptcy. Initially there were no restrictions on filing bankruptcy for student loans, then there was a two year waiting period, then it became 10 years (which is where it remains today).
I suggest you contact the truste that handled your bankruptcy and between the two of you map out the critical dates to determine which rules apply to your loans. Then you can decide what to do next.
