If an individual is a citizen of Canada, will he be able to leave the country permanently after filing bankruptcy? How long must an individual remain in the country after filing bankruptcy?

Bankruptcy does not restrict a persons rights to travel so you may leave the country whenever you want. The caveat is that there are a couple of things you must do in person during the bankruptcy – I suggest you stick around long enough to see that they are completed before you leave.

If a hearing is required in order for you to be discharged you will also have to appear in Court – if you left the country that may be difficult to arrange…
