Living in the U.S. – Filing in Canada
What do you know about Canadian citizens who are living in the U.S. but are considering filing for bankruptcy re: debt in Canada? where do I start? What is the process? Will it affect my U.S. earnings or credit rating?

You cannot file for bankruptcy in Canada unless you either attend at a trustee’s office in Canada yourself or someone with a properly executed Power of Attorney for you attends in your place.
If you are able to satisfy this requirement then I suggest you contact a trustee in the city in which you (or your representative) will attend and work out the details directly with them. It is not complicated, but may vary slightly depending on your trustee’s practices.
My trustee discharged himself from my file since we had difficulty working together. I plan to restart the process myself, since this is one of my options to get my bankruptcy discharged.
Will I again be protected from creditors when I start the process myself?
