debt responsibilty
My mother is declaring bankruptcy. I have a good income and no debt. I received a call from one of my mothers creditors. They want the full amount from me . They have me listed on her account. Several years ago she asked for a supplemental card for me.My mother decided not to give it to me.I have never seen the card and I certainly never used it or signed it. The card was still in the envelope it came in ,locked away in her security chest. The card is in pristine condition .I am not paying for this huge debt when I never had it in my possession .What recourse do I have .

Unfortunately if you are a co-signer on the credit card, you are liable for the entire balance, not just for the 5% you spent on the card. You could ask the credit card company to remove your name from the card, although it is unlikely that they will. Making arrangments with the lender are another option. Here are some links to articles that may help: you bankruptcy and your Spouse and you Joint Credit Cards.
If you have never signed or used the card ask the credit card company to verify that you have indeed signed the agreement or used the card. If they are unable to do so, simply insist that you are not responsible for the debt and the collector will probably leave you alone.
