millions of calls
I have seen a trustee and he told me that because I am a senior and that my income is derived from Canada pension and old age and I have no assets I should not do anything .I have lots of credit card debt and cannot figure out how I got into this pickle .I don’t do well with figures or making a budget .The collection companies and my card companies know about me.I am hoping they will eventually write off my debt and stop calling. My son thinks they will. How long will they continue to call me ? I am 70 now and I hope I am not getting calls from them when I am in my eighties or nineties.Do the calls stop after a few years .Will I be hauled into court.I don’t know what to tell judges if they make me go.My mind is not as good now and I am frightened .

Legally they don’t have to stop making calls until the debt is paid in full. Unfortunately as each collection agency has their own internal guidelines I can’t begin to estimate whether the calls will stop or how long this may take. As for court activity, they will likely sue you to obtain a judgment, but as you have no assets that the creditors could access the only action they can continue to take is the encouraging phone calls and quite frankly most judgment applications don’t even require you to be in attendance at court.
